Scrapbooking Adhesives 101
Scrapbookers can never have enough adhesives, and now it comes in so many choices. The scrapbooking manufacturers offer some very innovative adhesives that can meet the new demands of the scrapbooking industry. Trends and techniques have continues to change, and you need to know what adhesive to choose for your scrapbooking projects.
Photo safe is the most important quality when choosing a scrapbooking adhesive. Make sure any adhesive you choose is archival sage, especially when using them on the back of your photographs. Scrapbookers have so many choices when it comes to adhesives.
Photo Corners: Scrapbookers love photo corners because they allow you to remove an item from the scrapbook. They are not permanent adhesives. They have remained a popular choice in scrapbooking adhesives since the scrapbooking craze began. Heritage photos work well with photo corners, allowing you a temporary mount to your page layout. Photo corners now come in an assortment of colors.
Glue: Scrapbookers love glue for its versatility. Glue comes in pens, tubes and bottles. You can use just a small dot of glue from a glue pen to stick even the tiniest items to your scrapbooking page. Choose from permanent or repositionable glues, or even specialized glue for metal or fabric.
Tape Runners: These are double-sided adhesives that are sold in rolls or in dispensers. They are a must-have supply for any scrapbooker. Similar to glue, they come in permanent and repositionable varieties. They are convenient and less messy than regular glue. You run the tape along your photos, paper or any other surface that needs adhesives. It leaves behind a continuous line of adhesive.
Glue Dots: What would we do without glue dots for our heavy embellishments? Glue dots are ideal for ribbon, fabric and textured items as well. They create a strong bond, and are available in many sizes on either rolls or sheets.
Glue Sticks: Still a favorite among scrapbookers, glue sticks are less messy than most glue. They allow you to cover a wide area quickly. Yet, they still can be used on small items. Before you purchase glue sticks, make sure they are photo-safe. You don't want the ones made for school projects.
Adhesive Spray: The advantages of adhesive spray are even coverage and transparency. They work well with vellum, unlike some adhesives that will show through the paper. You do have to be very careful with over spray. Always put down paper to cover your work surface before using adhesive spray.
Tape: Scrapbookers find many uses for both double-sided and standard tape. One-sided tape can be used to cover the prongs on brads and eyelets, so your pages don't get caught on them.
Foam Tape: Dots and squares are common shapes for foam tape. Double-sided, this adhesive gives your page elements a dimensional effect. Try using them with letters and titles and add some interest to your pages.
With so many scrapbooking adhesives to choose from, you'll want to stock up on your favorites. Watch your favorite craft stores for sales. Make sure you pack a variety of adhesive options for your next workshop or crop. You'll be sure to have the right adhesive for your next scrapbooking project.
